Effect of auxins and cytokinins on plant regeneration from hypocotyls and cotyledons in niger (Guizotia abyssinica

Guizotia abyssinica (L.f.) Cass. a indigenous medicinal and oil yielding plant of India and have been never studied scientifically for its beneficial effects. The present investigation was carried to study the standardization parameters of the plant and to evaluate the crude extracts for pharmacological potential to confirm and provide scientific basis for its use in traditional medicine and also to explore some new effects. For the above mentioned purpose, the crude extracts derived were screened pharmacologically and the extracts were further taken in consideration to formulate the suitable dosage form. A comprehensive work done by various scientist and research scholars in evaluating the selected species in the field of agro-technique, cyto-genetic, pharmacognostical, chemical nature and pharmacology profile were discussed below. Also, the formulation and evaluation aspects of various medicinal plants were presented in the present chapter.
